VOLUNTEER

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center and Foundation. Virginia Garcia was founded by volunteers and we continue to honor the time, energy and skills that volunteers bring to our organization.

We are currently developing our volunteer program to better serve our organization, our dedicated volunteers and community supporters.  A list of volunteer opportunities can be found below. Other volunteer opportunities frequently arise, so please connect even if none of the above opportunities seem to be a good match for you.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

Data entry, filing, and various other administrative tasks are needed to keep our operations running. Use your detail-oriented skills to help our behind-the-scenes trains run on time.

Virginia Garcia works to make sure our patients’ interests are represented in local, state, and national policy decisions. Register voters, contact your elected officials, and engage community members in making sure everyone has access to great health care.

We’ll have various activities at our Cornelius Wellness Center over Spring Break (week of March 25th), from arts and crafts to dance to making (and eating) snacks, and more. We’ll need volunteer help with keeping kids engaged and supporting the instructors’ plans.

Our Foundation holds a few events each year to raise funds and awareness of our work. We’ll need volunteers to help with event prep the day before, and various tasks (like guest registration, ushering, raffle ticket sales, and parking support) the day of, for each of the following events

Health Care Symposium, 3:30-9pm, Monday, May 13th at OHSU
Grape Adventure, 3-9pm, Saturday, July 20th, at REX HILL in Newberg
National Health Center Week, August 4-10, multiple clinic locations
¡Prospera!, 4-10pm, Friday, September 27th, at the Sentinel in Portland

Support our monthly free food markets in partnership with the Oregon Food Bank in Cornelius, Hillsboro, and Beaverton. We will be giving away fresh produce and dry foods to needy families in a farmer’s market type of environment. We may also cook and serve recipe samples to give people ideas of how to prepare healthy foods.

Help our Cornelius Wellness Center garden grow! The garden is used for teaching healthy food options, herbal medicine, and producing delicious food for our patient community.

Help our team prepare incredible National Health Center Week (August 4th-10th) events in Beaverton, Cornelius, McMinnville, and Newberg. It takes months of preparation to pull off a successful fair with hundreds of community members and dozens of local organizations participating. 5-10 hours/week for the summer and a basic level of Spanish skills is preferred.

Every summer, our mobile clinic visits migrant and seasonal farmworker patients at their job sites. We need volunteers to help us count patients, assist our health educators, run children’s activities, distribute donated items, and more. Spanish speaking ability required.

VG is launching a new website and we need a WordPress savvy volunteer to help format and update some of the pages. Estimated commitment is 2-3 hours/week beginning in about April and running through August. Work can be completed from home and you will need your own computer and internet connection.

Teach our patients and community members in Cornelius and Beaverton in exercise classes like yoga or tai chi, self-defense, resume writing, English, crafting with seniors and kids, and more.
