Over the past three months, several Virginia Garcia staff have been recognized for their hard work in advocacy and innovation:

Portland Business Journal Women of Influence

The Portland Business Journal announced the 16th annual Women of Influence recipients. The award is designed to honor the region's most influential business women who've made a difference in their communities, blazed a trail and are leaving a mark on the Pacific Northwest community.

Virginia Garcia Memorial Foundation Executive Director Serena Cruz was a recipient of the award this year. She received her award at the annual Women of Influence banquet April 11 at an awards banquet held at the Hilton in downtown Portland.

The Oregon Primary Care Associates (OPCA) Annual Awards of Excellence
OPCA announced it's recipients for the annual Awards of Excellence this past month. Virginia Garcia is thrilled to have recipients in two categories. They will be recognized at the OPCA annual meeting on May 17 in Portland.

Innovation & Leadership in Transformation Award
Leading the effort to establish CHCs as centers of excellence through innovative community partnerships, clinical, operational and administrative practices. 

Deputy Chief Operations Officer Fred Dolgin was recognized for his work in bringing video translation to the patients of Virginia Garcia, as well as improvements to access and scheduling at multiple clinics. To read the complete nomination, click here.

CHC Advocacy Award
Outstanding efforts in advocacy on behalf of health centers and the patients we serve.

Executive Director Serena Cruz was recognized for her work in forwarding advocacy at Virginia Garcia. She played a key role in raising more than $7M for the Beaverton Wellness Center capital campaign and continues her efforts today through initiatives that forward the issues that concern Virginia Garcia patients. Stand for Your Mission
Stand for Your Mission recognizes nonprofit boards that have established advocacy as an expectation for engaged and effective board leadership — and, by doing so, are helping their organizations realize their missions.

Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center is a finalist for the 2019 Stand for Your Mission and if selected will receive $5,000 in support of our advocacy work. You can read the nomination here.

 

American Association of University Women (AAUW) Breaking Barriers Award
This annual award is given to an Oregon woman or an Oregon group, organization and/or institution who, within the past five years, has has exemplified AAUW’s mission in a manner that has had a demonstrative impact on our state’s women and girls in the areas of equity and/or education.

Policy and Advocacy Officer Felicita Monteblanco received the Breaking Barriers award this year for her work in both advocacy and equity at Virginia Garcia. She received the award at a ceremony held in early April.
