b'Outreach Team Builds Trust in a Time of FearDespite the challenges of the past year, Virginia Garcia remains true to the heart of its mission: providing high quality health care to those who need it most, with an emphasis on migrant and seasonal farmworkers. This work has never been more important than with the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine. Outreach Manager Ignolia Duyck and Outreach Program Coordinator Rosa Rivera work every day to help workers overcome fears around the vaccine. Helping farmworkers understand their rights and addressing mental health have always been important issues, but 2021 brought a new priority: addressing vaccine hesitancy. Ignolia shared one way she works to overcome this is by engaging in a sincere conversation, where farmworkers do not feel judgment for not getting the vaccine. Rosa added that it is important to have this conversation in the language farmworkers speak. She said that the fears they feelfear of the COVID-19 test and distrust of the vaccinecan turn to trust when they take the time to understand their fears and speak in the same language. Due to their efforts, many farmworkers decided to get the vaccine. Over the summer, 1,000 doses were given, with over 780 completed vaccine series.Ignolia and Rosas hope for the future is to see the Virginia Garcia mission moving forward with respect and passion for those we serve, so we will always be able to provide the quality care these communities need and deserve. #JointheFight'
