b'Taking the Vaccine to the CommunityLast fall as testing demand continued and vaccinations were on the horizon, our Mobile Outreach Team shifted to meet the needs of the public. Adding team members and fine-tuning its scope of work, the nine-member COVID Response (CoRe) Team was created. This team braved the cold and darkness to learn the art of gathering a sample through a car window in a rainstorm. The arrival of the vaccine led the CoRe Team to hit the road once again, this time hosting vaccination events in Washington and Yamhill counties. Utilizing the mobile clinic, the CoRe Team took the vaccine to communities and neighborhoods, focusing on populations of color hardest hit by the disease and with the lowest vaccination rates. Versatility has been key to their success. We are a very nimble, flexible unit that can pivot very quickly, said Dr. Stephanie McAndrew, CoRe Team lead provider. The pandemic has tested that flexibility. When the CDC put a hold on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the CoRe Team was preparing to vaccinate workers at a plant nursery in McMinnville. They pivoted and switched to the Moderna vaccineloading and defrosting the doses on to the mobile clinic, proceeding to make the long drive to the nursery, and arriving just slightly behind schedule. The Team continues to collaborate with both Washington and Yamhill County public health, identifying communities with low vaccination rates, and working with community partners to plan events that will reach people where they live, work and gather. #JointheFight'
