b'From Practice to Podcasts: Dr. Eva GalvezAs COVID-19 ravaged the communities we serve, the pandemic further highlighted the health inequities affecting our communities. Dr. Eva Galvez, a Virginia Garcia provider in Hillsboro, is the daughter of Mexican immigrant farmworkers and a strong advocate for migrant and seasonal farmworkers. I think having that constant reminder of the needs in our community is what keeps me motivated. But its also very personal for me. This is the community that shaped me, shares Eva. She hopes to spread awareness step-by-step. During the past two years, Eva was featured in multiple news outlets, including the New York Times, NPR, OPB and PBS NewsHour, where she discussed the impact of different social determinants of health and how Latinx communities are at greater risk from COVID-19. She also testified before a Congressional subcommittee and reached out to local policymakers in Salem. In 2021, Eva reached more audiences through Ask the Expert sessions on a Latinx community podcast and gave advice on how adult children of immigrants can talk to their families about the COVID-19 vaccine. She was also a guest panelist at Virginia Garcias 2021 Health Care Symposium, where she joined other local health and policy experts in discussing the racial, social and health injustices exposed by COVID-19. I think we can all be advocates, says Eva. What we know now is that health and social conditions are interconnected, and if were wanting to make an impact on health, we need to look beyond the walls of healthcare.#JointheFight'
