b'Advocacy:Moving theMission ForwardAt Virginia Garcia, we believe health care is a human right, and we center our mission on migrant and seasonal farmworkers and others with barriers to receiving health care. We were founded in 1975, following the tragic death of six-year-old Virginia Garcia, when a simple injury caused an infection while she traveled with her migrant farm working family. Today, we remain committed to ensuring everyone in our community can access the health care services they need, regardless of their ability to pay, the language they speak, their country of origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or other identifier. In the past year, Virginia Garcia has engaged in advocacy that includes farmworker rights around overtime pay, safety guidelines on working in extreme heat and adverse weather, gun safety, and access to health care services for all individuals. We also re-started an internal program that seeks to develop the next generation of community advocates and leaders. In spring of 2022, we hired an Advocacy Engagement Program Manager and a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Program Manager to ensure that our efforts to positively impact our communities remain present in all aspects of our work, and are a guiding force for the direction of the organization. We will continue to engage our staff, patients, and supporters in ways that elevate the issues that affect our patients and the communities we serve.#WeAreVirginiaGarcia'
