SHAC stands for the Student Health Advisory Council. It is a student-led group that works in collaboration with the School-Based Health Center (SBHC) to promote health and wellness within our school community. Students have the opportunity to share their opinions, plan projects, and advocate for health initiatives that benefit everyone. What is SHAC?
SHAC stands for Student Health Advisory Council. It’s a student-led group that collaborates with the School-Based Health Center (SBHC) to promote health and wellness in our school community. Students have the opportunity to voice their opinions, plan projects, and advocate for health initiatives that benefit everyone. Students come with their ideas and SHAC will do their best to fund them!
Who can join SHAC?
SHAC is open to Forest Grove, Century, Beaverton, and Tigard High School students interested in promoting health and wellness at school. We encourage students from diverse backgrounds to join and contribute their unique perspectives.
What kind of projects has SHAC worked on?

SHAC has successfully completed several impactful projects, including:

Advocacy Day: An opportunity for students to meet their legislators and learn about advocating for youth. Students get to learn about healthcare career paths from medical providers at School-Based Health Centers. This event takes place every year!
Valentine’s Goodie Bags: Promoted healthy relationships among students by distributing informative goodie bags.
De-Stress with SHAC: Organized a stress-relief event during testing week, offering activities and resources to help minimize student stress.
Candy Cane Fundraiser: Conducted a fundraiser to support SHAC initiatives and promote community engagement.
Affirmation Walls: Set up affirmation walls in the health centers to encourage positive thinking and self-empowerment among students.

How does SHAC benefit my child?
SHAC helps students develop leadership skills, learn about health and wellness, and make a positive impact on their school community. It also provides an opportunity for students to earn community service hours, build their resumes, and engage in meaningful work that can benefit them in the future. Students will also receive a graduation cord their senior year for participating in the program!
How can I support my child’s involvement in SHAC?

Encourage your child to participate actively in SHAC meetings and projects. You can also attend SHAC events, provide feedback, and help your child with any project-related tasks at home. Your support is vital in helping them succeed and make a difference in the school community.
