Got questions? We’ve got answers.
Who can use the SBHC?
Any student ages 2–21 enrolled in the school district can use the School-Based Health Center, including those in home school and private school.
Who works at SBHCs?
Each SBHC has a primary care provider, behavioral/mental health providers, medical assistant, youth coordinator, and receptionist.
Is the SBHC part of the school district?
The SBHCs are run by VGMHC in partnership with the school districts, the county, and the state.
Can students come to their appointment without a parent or guardian?
Yes. In Oregon, students can consent to their own care starting at certain ages. At age 15, they can schedule and attend medical and dental appointments on their own. For mental health services, they can self-consent starting at age 14. This means they do not need a parent or guardian with them to receive these services.
Do students need to make an appointment to be seen?
We prefer students make an appointment, but walk-ins are welcome and may be seen if there is time.
Do all SBHCs offer dental services?
No, dental services are only available at the Beaverton School-Based Health Center. To schedule a visit, call (503) 356-3985. These services are available to all students enrolled in the Beaverton School District, including those in home school and private school.
