VG Concert Benefits Women’s Clinic

The Fernando Band, Trujillo and Edna Vazquez will be performing a benefit concert, presented by the Oregon College Savings Plan on Feb 1, 2018 at The Mississippi Studios to raise money for The Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center Women’s Clinic.

The idea of a concert began with Women’s Clinic Lead Clinician, Monica Arce. “Many months ago, during the eclipse weekend, I was at a music festival, getting ready to witness one of the hugest natural phenomenons one could hope for in their life time.” Arce said.  “The music festival consisted of several great group of musicians based in Oregon and Washington state.  Much to my surprise many of the musicians were Latinos.  I thought it would be so fun to have a music concert to both raise funds and awareness of our programs, featuring latino musicians.  I mentioned it to an old musician acquaintance of mine, Fernando Viciconte, and he made this event happen.”

The show will feature Fernando Viciconte, who was inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame in 2016.   As an Argentinian who had his prior experience with being undocumented, Fernando felt connected to VG’s mission and jumped on the idea of making this show happen.

His bass player Freddy Trujillo will be playing as well.  Freddy is from California and has been playing music since he was very little,  first with his family and then independently.  He also plays and sings in multiple bands in Portland.

Opening the evening will be Edna Vazquez.   She is a mariachi singer based out of Portland Oregon, who now plays venues all around the country, including the Lincoln Center in New York City when she toured with Pink Martini.

The doors open at 8 and the show will start at 9pm on the 1st. Tickets are on sale NOW for $15. They will also be available at the door.

If you would like posters to hang and help promote the event, please let us know and we can send you a printable pdf of the event poster (pictured here). “Please spread the word,” said Arce. “Then get ready to enjoy some good music and support to wonderful programs coming out of the new VG Women’s Clinic!”
