Planned Giving Strategies
There are many ways to make a planned gift. Our goal is to support you in deciding which type of planned gift works best for you and your family.
Charitable Bequest
One of the simplest and most common types of planned gifts, a bequest involves naming Virginia Garcia in a will. This provides a gift to Virginia Garcia when the donor passes away. Donors can leave a percentage of their total estate, a specific dollar amount, or they may leave what is left after all other bequests have been fulfilled.
Sample bequest language for donors and their advisors:
"To the Virginia Garcia Memorial Foundation, an Oregon nonprofit corporation, Tax ID number 91-2077840, for (insert percentage of estate or dollar amount here) to be used for (insert program of choice here) or for general purposes as determined by the Board of Directors."
Beneficiary Designation
Beneficiary designation involves naming Virginia Garcia as a beneficiary of a retirement plan, insurance policy or other asset. This helps you give to an important cause without individual recipients paying taxes when receiving the transferred funds.
Simply request a Change of Beneficiary form from your plan administrator and add Virginia Garcia Memorial Foundation as the, or one of the beneficiaries.
Donor-Advised Fund
A public charity pools donations from donors and invests them. The fund then makes grants to nonprofit organizations like Virginia Garcia based upon donor recommendations. Donor-Advised Funds can be established through organizations like the Oregon Community Foundation.
Charitable Remainder Trust
A charitable remainder trust is an irrevocable trust that provides payments to donors and/or loved ones during the term of the trust, and the remainder to Virginia Garcia at the end of the trust's term.
Charitable Gift Annuity
A donor gives Virginia Garcia cash or securities. In exchange, Virginia Garcia makes guaranteed payments to the named beneficiaries for as long as they live. Virginia Garcia receives the remainder when the beneficiaries pass away.
