Virginia Garcia provides prenatal care at our Hillsboro site using the nationally recognized Centering Pregnancy group visit model. We believe that group prenatal visits are the most effective and enjoyable way to provide and receive prenatal care.
Through this unique model of care women often form strong bonds with other women in the
group, and are empowered to choose health-promoting behaviors. Centering Pregnancy has been shown to have positive health outcomes including fewer low birthweight babies, fewer babies delivered preterm, and increased satisfaction with the overall experience of prenatal care by both women and their providers.
The Centering Pregnancy program brings together soon-to-be mothers to receive prenatal care and information in groups with other women at similar points in their pregnancy. Instead of short individual OB visits, women receive all the essential elements in those individual visits, plus important information about nutrition, breastfeeding, childbirth preparation, contraception and family dynamics.
The groups meet throughout their pregnancy for a total of 10 two-hour sessions with the same provider and a co-facilitator. The groups are led by the provider and the co-facilitation, with active participation from the women, so women get to learn from each other as much as they do from the providers and support staff.
These sessions also include topics like breastfeeding, childbirth preparation, contraception, nutrition, healthy habits, family dynamics, domestic violence, postpartum and newborn care.
Most of our patients deliver at the Tuality Birth Center. We also have relationships with larger hospitals in the Portland metro area for complicated pregnancies. In addition, we offer options for women who want to have a vaginal birth after a cesarean section.
Our practice is made up of family doctors and nurse-midwives, so the entire family can be taken care of throughout their life span by the same clinic and doctor.
If you are in search/need of prenatal care, whether you are pregnant now, or hoping to become pregnant soon, please call our Hillsboro site at (503) 601-7400 and ask to schedule an appointment or speak with our Centering Program Coordinator.
If a patient feels the Centering Program isn’t for them they may opt out and receive individual prenatal care.
